You had me at Mixtape!! A melancholy classical mixtape? Yes please! I just loved the Ravel and Schubert pieces. Florence Price sounded so unique but so familiar. You know how I felt about Josquin des Prez (yes, much too short!) And when I cued up The Swan, it felt like coming home to an old flame! My heart swooned! 💙 I love this idea…can’t wait for the next one!

Thank, Katie — I'm so glad you enjoyed! I love how warm and familiar the Sibelius felt to you this go-round. Exactly the feelings I hope to cultivate when revisiting a beloved work. 💙

What a delicious programme of delights! As I type I've just got to the end of the Ravel piece. That man could evoke water so brilliantly - I love Jeux d'eau too.

Thanks for this lovely selection. A great way to spend an afternoon 💙🎶

Thanks, Jules! I couldn't agree more — Ravel and water (and bird song) are a match made in artistic heaven. Jeux d'eau was the first piano work of Ravel's I ever heard. I remember being so transfixed that I started to feel dizzy! 💙

What a lovely introduction, with the reminiscences of mixtape - including getting the letter size right for the spine!

I’ve just joined Prestomusic, ( courtesy of recommendation of @jvhalbrooks) while keeping my Spotify subscription.

I’m now rediscovering listening to albums, as artists intended, and it’s quite a novelty. I’ll hunt some of these down if I can on Prestomusic.

Thanks so much, Richard! To think of all the times I completely rewrote track listings because I ran out of room. 🤣

Glad to hear you're enjoying Presto Music. PM and Idagio have really nailed it when it comes to metadata for classical recordings. It's so much fun to be able to compare various recordings of a single work with such ease and, as you noted, consider all the connections to be made across an artist's album. Not to mention having access to liner notes again!

Hope you enjoy your time exploring these works.

Yes - I think the ability to check out other recordings of works is a major strength, and absolutely fascinating. I’m like a child in a toy shop at the moment. I’m now listening to the full album of Ian Bostridge’s Schumann.

I wanted to get a feel for the poetry, and unlike you, I can’t translate from German, BUT, I found another album through the Explore feature with English translation. So really pleased. My first time really appreciating Schumann’s song cycles. Thank you.

Yeah their Beethoven 5 is super intense too. Huge tension. I was scheduled to see them but Covid got in the way and now he’s not welcome in the US because of the his support of Russia in the Ukraine war…

Yeah, I was super disappointed to learn how entrenched he and his orchestra are in Putin's regime. Now we can only imagine how electric MusicAeterna's performances must be in person.
