A Seinfeld fan, on top of being such a remarkable music connoisseur. It's almost a Festivus miracle. Thank you for every recommendation.

It’s my pleasure, Crina! And few television characters bring me as much delight as Frank Costanza. 🤣

Lovely article Michael, and you have my full sympathy going through a move. 😱 81 potted plants and I'm just contemplating buying one, after reading another excellent Substack article this week which relayed all the benefits of house plants. Coincidence.

It's years since I saw "The Hunger", and lovely to see that clip of DB and Deneuve 💛

Really enjoyed it as usual. So sad about Lars Vogt. A beautiful recording to leave the world.

Good luck with the move. Hope you are soon in your new nest and all the chaos behind you x

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, Jules! Just a few days remain and then we can start sinking into comfort in our new place. 💙 (And I thoroughly recommend getting a plant — I started with 5 at the beginning of the pandemic, and now I’ve created a pleasure garden.)

Sounds like it’s time to revisit The Hunger! John and Miriam were such Schubert fans that another work of his also appears in the film! 🩸

This was so much fun (and so poignant) to revisit this season. Your rhetorical question (“Wouldn't that be lovely — to speak to one another in phrases offered with nothing but love and respect, kindness and affection?”) isn’t lost on me with next-next Tuesday on the very near horizon. If only more folks could sit quietly with Schubert. Sighhhhh.

Meanwhile, serenity now [insanity later???] indeed!! In 6-8 months I hope—with a heavy side of trepidation—to be in your shoes, only with thousands of vinyl records instead of potted plants 😂 Godspeed, my friend! Please let us know how it goes!!

“If only more folks could sit quietly with Schubert” — what a dream world that would be. I had hoped this lullaby of longing would help ease tensions ahead of next Tuesday. I know I’ve been tapping into music even more than usual as a balm! Thanks so much for reading and listening, Katie! 💙

And wowza — your thousands of records certainly eclipses my potted plant issues! Are you still contemplating a move to the SW?

When you find yourself dipping into the melancholy, consider watching What We Do in the Shadows for a quick pick-me-up.

Good luck with your move!! No doubt, vampire films will help you through ;)

Lovely article on a film I forgot about.

PS I've been enjoying the previews of Jon Batiste's Beethoven reworkings. What do you think of them?

Thanks, Kate! Among all the packing and logistics, I did make the time to watch a new (to me) vampire film: The Vourdalak — a gorgeous French film set in 18th-century Eastern Europe in which the vampire is portrayed by a large marionette doll. I can't recommend it enough! 🩸

And I'm really excited to hear Batiste's Beethoven album later this month. The first two tracks are incredible — I love how effortlessly he's able to slide back and forth between styles. Quite the rollercoaster ride. 💙

Me too, it’s just gorgeous.

Now that sounds like an amazing film rec!
